michael mander telegraph graduation costs

This was my first by-line in a national newspaper.

I was investigated graduation profits and underhand tactics in the gown hire industry for my student newspaper after receiving a tip-off from the CEO of a start-up gowns company.

I closely read a long document sent to me by the start-up outlining all the tactics deployed in Higher Education that were leading to the student losing out. I found that the market leader, Ede & Ravenscroft, were entering into exclusive contracts with universities and offering commission on all gown hire. This was leading many universities to make soaring profits from their ceremonies.

I took the story to the Telegraph, where their national contacts could ensure it was properly angled as a national rather than a local story.
